About the conference…… Almost two decades have passed since “Marine Biotechnology” became an exiting and distinct scientific field. Some of the recent advances in Marine Biotechnology research have brought about a phenomenal change in our understanding of the potential of marine organisms as a source of bioactive molecules, pharmaceutical products, vaccines, enzymes and variety of other essential products all over the world. India has one of the longest coastline. However our knowledge in the field of Marine Biotechnology is not yet fully explored. If explored to the limit, India has the potential to emerge as a major hub for Marine Biotechnology Research. Located in Maharashtra, Mumbai serves as a financial nucleus of India. The juxtaposition of research and technology in Mumbai will give way to the development of new food products from fisheries and aquaculture. Mumbai is fighting with major environmental issues such as sea water pollution, mangrove devastation, encroachment for land and construction in the sea. Existing well-knit infrastructure could be effectively explored for aquaculture and Marine Biotechnology in addition to fisheries. It could also be exploited to harvest marine microbes for diverse purposes, from new drug development to solving environmental problems. Bioinformatics with confluence of information technology and biotechnology would open exciting new opportunities. The conference would provide an ideal platform for marine biotechnologist to debate and deliberate on issues that are critical for the progress of this emerging area. Indeed, the future in the 21st century is 'Bio-future' all the way, and we want to be a participant in building this 'Bio-future'. Objectives of the conference….. The conference aims at building bridges between “Universities, Industries, Government Agencies, and the Community” by recognizing the opportunities and challenges available through marine biotechnology. We also aim to provide the students and participants with important opportunities to exchange information, ideas, new research findings and innovations with some of the renowned scientist.
Themes of the conference..... In support of the area of Marine Biotechnology, the emphasis will be given on new programmes in the following identified areas:
